Mikiko Britton is the main educational director at HIDAMARI. She was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. She came to Canada and studied the Early Childhood Education and Care program at Vancouver Island University in 2001. Since then, she's been inspiring and being inspired by modern young children. Her experience with children includes working with toddlers and preschoolers in BC, entertaining families as a Kids Club Counselor on cruiseships, entertaining children as a mini club GO at Club Med in Okinawa, teaching yoga and English in Osaka, Japan. While working with children aged 0 to 17 from all over the world and traveling to more than 30 countries, she has always used her sense of respect for diverse children and families to create programs that make people happy.
In 2014, she founded HIDAMARI Exploration Studio & Child Care in Nanaimo with a hope of creating a supportive community where children and families explore who they are, what they need and want from life in the company of others. She is determined to further her own practice and development as an educator to offer a creative but structured environment where the present moment is honored.
On her time off, she loves to plan & go on family adventures, have a delicious cup of tea & chat with her friends, read books & surf the web on inspiring ideas and spend time on her yoga mat & dream a bigger dream. She gives many thanks and bows to her wonderful teachers and friends for inspiring her and deepening her knowledge, her parents for always giving tremendous support and unconditional love, her husband for sharing compassion, wisdom and dreams and her children for infusing her life with an absolute joy in every possible way!
